UPCOMING VISUAL ART EXHIBITION AT FUTURE TENANT

QUESTIONS THE BENEFITS, DETRIMENTS, AND PURPOSE OF ORDER

FOR, FORE, FOUR is a visual art installation highlighting the ambiguous intricacies of

order in the art world.

PITTSBURGH, PA— This January, Future Tenant is proud to showcase the innovative works of
current students from the School of Art at Carnegie Mellon University.

The exhibition is free and open to the public from January 20

th

- March 5

th

.  There will be free

Opening Night reception on January 20

th

, the night of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s Gallery

Crawl, from 6:00-9:00 PM.  The reception will feature complimentary beverages by Future
Tenant’s generous sponsor, Straub Beer.

Opening on January 20

th

, 2017, The curator, Jamie Earnest, describes the concept for the

exhibition as follows: “FOR, FORE, FOUR: In place of, in front of, after three. These three
words show the homonymous value of placement and order. While ordered systems help make
our lives easier, they also have the potential to teach us the lesson of expecting the
unexpected. Order is thus beneficial yet detrimental instantaneously. It is forever turbulent.

“The artists in this exhibition both endorse and refute ordered systems simultaneously. The
work challenges the order between the physical and the abstract while offering ambiguity “in
the place of” reality. Intimacy, oppression, reordered memories, and faith stand “in place of”
and “in front of” the artwork featured. Some works obliterate order, while others reorder and
renew the intimacy of regulated systems. The work is literally “in front of” and FOR the
viewer, offering a translucent truth “in place of” how we view systems through art.”

About the Curator
Jamie Earnest graduated with a BFA in Painting from The School of Art at Carnegie Mellon
University in May 2016. Her work has been exhibited internationally in cities such as
Pittsburgh, Houston, New York City, Miami, and Suzhou, China.
