General Information

Case Component Overview

Saturday October 22nd – Entrepreneurship Case (3 to 4 participants)

Saturday October 22nd –Pecha Kucha Case (3 to 4 participants)

Sunday October 23rd – Strategy Case (3 to 4 participants)

General Information

A Captains’ Meeting will be held on the evening of October 21, 2016 at the Coast

Bastion Hotel.

- A representative from each case team must be present at this meeting. During       

   this time, the MBA Games Organizing Committee will draw time slots for the         

   team presentations of all case competition.

- Teams will be provided with an identification number which they will use      

      

   throughout the case competitions

- Teams are not allowed to disclose their school affiliation during case  

     

 

   presentations and if so may result in disqualification.

Attire

- All competitors are required to wear formal business attire to all case    

 

   competitions

Sportsmanship

All competitors must uphold the BC MBA Games values of fairness, ethics,  

 

respect, and a sense of fellowship towards competitors, volunteers, judges, 

 and staff.

- Any violations or misconduct may result in points being deducted from their  

 

   total Spirit Score.

General Conduct

Although breakfast and lunch will be provided, teams are recommended to  

 

bring snacks to continually refuel themselves during the case competition

- Teams will be provided an area to congregate during non-competition periods of  

   time. The MBA Games Organizing Committee is not responsible for the loss or    

   damage of items left in competition venue

- Please keep all areas of the facility clean and free of litter at all time

Entrepreneurship Case

Team Captains are responsible for ensuring the awareness of and adherence to all rules.

Registration

Each participating team must sign in at the registration desk at VIU Building 250 

by 8:45am on Saturday, October 22, 2016. Transportation will be provided between 

the Coast Bastion Hotel and the campus.

Case Preparation

The Entrepreneurship Case will be handed out to the teams on October 21, 2016      

after the Opening Ceremony.  

- Teams will be assigned preparation rooms at the Square One facility.

- Each team will need to email their final PowerPoint presentation to 

   info@bcmbagames.ca by 8:00am on Saturday, October 22, 2016. PowerPoint

   presentations received after this time will result in disqualification or point

   deduction. No revisions to presentations will be accommodated after this    

 

   deadline.

Presentation Day

Teams will be assigned preparation rooms at VIU in Building 250 to practice  

 

their presentation after the team has signed in at the registration desk.

- The Entrepreneurship Case competition will take place on October 22nd at VIU    

   from 10:00am to 12:30pm

- Breakfast will be available at the Coast Bastion Hotel from 6:30am to 8:00am.

- Lunch will be provided to all participants in the Upper Cafeteria at VIU following   

   the competition presentations. 

Presentation Guidelines

Cases must be presented in English

- Presentations will be no more than 15 minutes in length. Warning will be   

   given to teams at the 5-minute, 3-minute and 1-minute mark, and teams will 

   be promptly cut off after 15 minutes.

- Question period may last up to 10 minutes.

- This is an open case competition and therefore external viewers have been  

 

   invited.

Evaluation Criteria

Marking criteria will be uploaded to the www.bcmbagames.ca website by 

Saturday, October 15, 2016.

Results

The Closing/Awards Ceremony will take place at the Vancouver Island 

Conference Centre on October 23rd from 12:00pm to 2:00pm. Winners of the 

case competition will be announced.

- Each team will receive feedback on their presentation by email one week after 

   the closing ceremonies.

These rules are subject to change based on updates on the competition and this will be 

communicated accordingly.

Pecha Kucha Case C ompetition

Team Captains are responsible for ensuring the awareness of and adherence to all rules.

Pecha Kucha

The Pecha Kucha presentation style is an art of concise storytelling. It’s a simple 

presentation format where you show 20 images, each for 20 seconds.

Registration

Each participating team must sign in at the registration desk of the Nanaimo Golf 

Club by 5:30pm on Saturday, October 22, 2016. Transportation will be provided 

between the Coast Bastion Hotel and the Nanaimo Golf Club.

Case Preparation & Submission

Teams will receive the details of the case on Tuesday, October 4, 2016.  

- Teams are expected to submit their final PowerPoint presentations via email to

   info@bcmbagames.ca on Thursday, October 20, 2016    

   

   at midnight.

- PowerPoint presentations received after this time will result in point deduction.   

   No revisions to presentations will be accommodated after this deadline.

Presentation Day

Pecha Kucha Case Competition will take place on Saturday, October 22nd at the 

Nanaimo Golf Club Dinner Gala event.

Presentation Guidelines

Cases must be presented in English.

- Presentations should be no more than six 6 minutes and 40 seconds in length. 

   Warning will be given to teams at the 2-minutes and 1-minute mark, and teams  

   will be promptly cut off after 6 minutes 40 seconds.

- Presentations are to consist of a 20 slide story flow with slides changing every  

   20 seconds. The slides are to change automatically and participants are to talk

   along with the slides.

Evaluation Criteria

Marking criteria will be uploaded to the www.bcmbagames.ca website by 

Tuesday, October 4, 2016.

Strategy Case C ompetition

The Team Captain is responsible for ensuring their team is aware of the following rules:

Reporting

Each participating team must sign in at the assigned case preparation facility by 

6:15am on Sunday, October 23, 2016.

Case Preparation & Submission

Teams will be assigned to a preparation room during the Captain’s Meeting on 

   October 21, 2016.

- The Strategy Case will be handed out to the teams on Sunday, October 23, 2016 

   at 6:30am.

- Teams will have 3 hours, from 6:30am to 9:30am to prepare.

- Each team needs to email their final PowerPoint presentation to 

   info@bcmbagames.ca by 9:30am on Sunday, October 23, 2016.

- PowerPoint presentations received after this time will result in disqualification 

   or point deductions. No revisions to presentations will be accommodated after 

   this deadline.

Presentation

Breakfast will be available at the Coast Bastion from 5:30am.

- The Strategy Case Competition will take place on October 23 rd at the Coast  

 

   Bastion Hotel from 9:45am to 11:45am.

- Teams are required to sign in at the registration desk at the Coast Bastion Hotel  

   10 minutes before the presentation time, after which they will be escorted to    

   the presentation room.
